The closed public roads on the Isle of Man will once again echo to the sound of rally cars this May [13/14] as Manx Auto Sport re-launch the popular Manx Rally.
After being forced to cancel the 2020 and 2021 editions of the event, the enthusiastic organising team have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to reinvigorate the highly regarded motorsport weekend, which opened its entries last week.
New for 2022, is the addition of an International grade to the rally to accommodate the newly acquired qualifying round of the FIA ERC Celtic Trophy, bringing a truly global feel and coinciding with the lifting of all island restrictions for travellers on 1 April.
Competitors of all abilities will be welcomed at the event with a National and Interclub category also following the International route to suit those crews a little closer to home and will also be a counting round of the HRCR Stage Masters Historic Stage Rally Challenge, the Welsh Historic Rally Championship, and the ANWCC Rally Championship.
From the rally base at the TT Grandstand in Douglas, competitors will be offered the chance to contest a pre-event shakedown on Friday morning before embarking on a two-day blast across some of the island’s finest roads with a spectacular line-up of 14 classic Isle of Man stages in store.
A compact route will keep costs down for crews who will tackle stages such as Little London, Tholt-e-Will and Druidale with four runs over the Baldwin’s also a feature. Comprising around 100 stage miles across Friday and Saturday, the event also includes an infamous night-time leg with the first car leaving the TT Grandstand at 18:00 on Friday.
Six stages lie in wait under the cover of darkness before an overnight halt brings welcome respite. The action resumes at 09:00 the following morning with a further eight scintillating tests that will test even the most experienced of competitors. The finish celebrations take place back at the Grandstand at around 16:45 with the traditional champagne spray and awards.
To aid logistics to the Isle of Man for overseas and UK crews, the event has enlisted the services of Official Travel Partner; Isle of Man Event Services* who will assist in travel arrangements for those wishing to travel to the event to compete, officiate or to spectate.
